GCA Director's Report - January 2024

Dear Patriot Families,

As the proud school director of our exceptional school, I am thrilled to introduce a new monthly update that will complement our regular weekly emails. These newsletters will provide a review of the progress of our building construction and offer recaps of the month, showcasing the accomplishments of our outstanding students and staff. Together, let's continue to make this school year not only transformative, but also a collection of cherished memories for all.

Thank you for your commitment and ongoing support for Greenwood Charter Academy.

Go Patriots!

Jason Morrison

School Director

School Updates

In the last month, we've begun to use our gym on a daily basis for PE and school events. Our first event to use the gym was our first semester awards ceremony. We were excited to honor all of our Patriots for their hard work and dedication during the first semester. We appreciate all of the parents and family members who joined us and helped celebrate our amazing students.

Our playground is nearly complete, and students have enjoyed recess time with their classmates. In January we began our  partnership with the Federal CEP program to offer free breakfast and lunch for all of our students.

Celebrating student Success

In January we celebrated our students' success during our first semester awards day. Every student at GCA received an award and many of them received several academic and behavioral awards. We are proud of all of their accomplishments.

At GCA we want to celebrate quality behavior and academic achievement. Last week we celebrated our Patriot Point Good Behavior Celebration by giving the students who have earned enough points the opportunity to enjoy inflatable slides and a sweet treat! The students loved the event and are working toward a bigger reward at the end of the year!

Core Virtues Highlights

In the preceding month, we recognized students embodying our Core Virtues by choosing one exceptional student from each classroom who exemplifies the virtue most frequently.

This past month, our focus shifted to the virtue of courage. Courage means doing what is right despite fear, moving beyond those fears, and finding the strength to persevere. We will celebrate our next core virtue of the month students for every classroom in the next two weeks and will share that information with our families!

We are so proud of our Citizen and Students of the Month for January:

Teacher Spotlight (Teacher of the Month)

Each month, we take the opportunity to shine a spotlight on one of our exceptional teachers and their invaluable contributions to our school community. This month, we celebrate the remarkable efforts of Joey Giles. Mr. Giles has been in education over 30 years and has brought his expertise to GCA. He brings out the best in all of his 5th grade students in their ELA and History classes. His lessons go above and beyond to make sure the students are able to understand and enjoy the information that they are learning.

Mr. Giles is invaluable to the other teachers on campus as he works as a mentor to many of our younger teachers. He is a huge part of the Greenwood community participating in the Greenwood Community Theater. We are proud to call Mr. Joey Giles the GCA Teacher of the Month!
